Being a copywriter I am always spotting misspelt words, extra spaces and the miss use of punctuation, but what if the mistakes weren’t mistakes at all?
I received an email recently with the subject line “An Cloud Update” – an cloud, that’s not English! But because of the mistake, and my infuriation with it, I opened the email, which I might not have done if it had been written correctly.
This made me think what a clever marketing strategy, if the company had put the mistake in on purpose.
What better way to get someone’s attention and help your email stand out from the masses. Subject lines are a make or break of opening an email, so creating an earth shattering witty line isn’t always the best way to grab the interest of your target market –provocative or misspelt words may be more effective.
