PRESS RELEASE: LEE VALLEY REGIONAL PARK

Inaugural indoor field and track championships takes place at Lee Valley Athletics Centre

On 5 December students aged 16-24 years from universities and colleges in the south east competed in their inaugural indoor track and field championships at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, North London.

Over 200 competitors from 20 universities and colleges as far afield as Portsmouth, Plymouth and Canterbury competed in 60m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, relay, high jump, long jump and shot putt for men and women.

Enfield and Haringey Athletics Club provided skilled volunteer officials, and the top three athletes in each event were presented with a medal from current GB international athletes, attending Middlesex University.

David Chalfen, Sport Development Officer at Lee Valley Regional Park Authority said:

"The first indoor field and track championships went extremely well. Having some UK elite athletes here provided encouragement to students taking part and the feedback from the athletes has been really encouraging. The Lee Valley Athletics Centre is a great facility for up and coming athletes who wouldn't previously had a centre like this available to them and we look forward to hosting a similar event at the Centre in the near future"
