PRESS RELEASE: ASDA & LEE VALLEY REGIONAL PARK

Asda adds keep-fit routine to weekly shopping list

A supermarket has been giving shoppers the chance to get fit while they do their shopping. Visitors to Asda, in Edmonton Green, were given special taster sessions during a keep-fit event designed to help shoppers get in shape while having a bit of fun at the same time. Age Concern Enfield was on hand to provide a warm-up session, Yoga 4 Mums gave busy mothers a taster in yoga and a dietician from NHS Enfield gave healthy eating tours of the aisles.

Lesley Worsfold, the store manager, said:

"We are all conscious about eating the right food and getting some exercise, I hope that these short sessions will show people that just doing a little gentle exercise can help keep you fit."

The event at Asda coincides with a fitness extravaganza in Edmonton this weekend. Sporting Futures, which takes place at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, Edmonton, on Sunday, is a free event aimed at getting more people involved in sport. There will be more than 40 activities on offer to people of all ages and abilities.

Anita Yiannoullou, who is managing both events on behalf of Pro-Active North London, said:

"The event is all about trying to get people to do things they wouldn't normally do. It offers a safe and professional environment, where people can walk in and try something without the pressure to join a gym or a club."

Anyone who wants to find out more about either event can visit www.sportingfutures.co.uk
